Day 10: A song that reminds you of your father:
Laura Branigan - "Gloria"

My dad loved this song when it came out, as did I. I got the song as a 45 single, my dad also had it in some other form. My dad used to BLARE it through the house. He's not huge into music, but when he does listen to music he usually just lays on the bed, turns on the stereo really loud and just lays there and listens. He'd do that for this song. One day I had the song playing in my room and I was just playing with my dolls or something, he comes in, walks over to my stereo, says to me "this song is meant to be played LOUD" and then turns the volume knob way up and then leaves. So now every time I hear this song I think of Dad saying it has to be played loud and just how much he always liked this song. I made him a mix of songs I knew he liked a few years back and had to put this song on it, he was so pleased, he said he hadn't heard it in years.

The idea of this song being meant to be played loud is hilarious for some reason.

He may have said "is best when played loud", but it's pretty similar in meaning. It's a good song and it is vaguely anthemic (is that a word? Oh well).

Dictionary.com says so! I guess I'm just a little too metal after all. To me, hard rock is what I think of when I think of music that must be played loud.

Hard rock and metal should be played sooooooftly, or not at all in my book :P

You know my quote/catch phrase, that I also have on the back of my iPod "stand out from the crowd, play quiet music very very loud".

Jeeez, how young is your Dad? If I had to name a song that reminds me of my father, it would be something by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, or maybe The Andrews Sisters. He would file Laura Branigan in the category of "new-age hippie punk crap all those young drug-heads listen to." Your dad seems cool.

Hah. My dad cool?...funny! My dad is 66, so when this song came out he was in his fourties. He rarely listens to music anymore, ever. He watches TV all...the...time. I think it's just getting the getting older.

It took me about three notes to go from 'What the heck song is this?' to *snerk*.
