I hate that having all or mostly "girl music" is weird. Or an all girl mix is deemed weird. It wouldn't be weird to have an all-guy mix. In fact, you wouldn't even notice, and most don't. Guy music is the norm. A guy wouldn't even notice that they had no music by women, someone would have to tell them. I am the opposite, someone had to point out to me that all my music was sung by women. I find this strange. And really, music, like other arts, you are drawn to it by it explaining something to you that may otherwise be hard to explain in normal communication. So having a sketch, a song, a novel, done by someone with the female perspective, the same perspective you have...why is it strange for many women to seek out those with like perspectives? I would find it stranger if they didn't. I think there's a reason more women do folk music than hard rock, and a reason more men do hard rock than confessional ballads...perspective.
And I am sick of people trying to tell me to give up the female/male perspective angle, that they don't really exist and that it is futile and stupid to try to make us different when we should be trying for equality. I don't WANT equality, I don't want to be like men and I have no desire to ever be a man. I want it to be okay, not only okay, but respectable, to be a woman, to be feminine, to have our own perspective of the world.
Yeah, maybe I take music too seriously, but I really do think the music you choose to listen to says something about who you are...or at least who you want to be. It shows what your perspective is, it shows what is important to you. That's not to say that we should automatically like all those who have the same music taste, as people are oft to like things for the wrong reasons, but I do think it can give insight.
