Hail Lip Gloss!
Sep. 25th, 2006 01:33 pmGood News for all lip gloss wearers like myself!
I read today that some of the bans on liquids on airplanes are being lifted and they specifically mentioned lip gloss. YAY lip gloss! I am flying to California for Thanksgiving and was worried about how I would be able to get across country with bare lips, oye. But now I feel better, though
bouncepogo had informed me that all solid lipsticks and gloss were allowed earlier this week. All the same, I am happy.
But these regulations bother me. I know they are for our safety but in all the studies more deadly things are able to get through screenings, but us normal people with our lip gloss and bottles of water are held back. It's frustrating and it feels like it has gone too far. They cannot keep us completely safe, they just can't, and you could probably make a bomb out of your underwear and a stick of gum if you wanted to (we've all seen MacGuyver) so where do they draw the line? No, I don't want my plane to blow up. I am just trying to figure out how common that would be if they allowed bottles of water and lip gloss on the planes.
This reminds me of the laws for seat belts in cars. I remember when there wasn't this law. I remember it felt weird that they were MAKING people be safer. Isn't it their life, their risk? It was like they were putting someone in a straight jacket in a padded room, you were not allowed to hurt yourself. I know it's deeper than that, I know that it's insurance and it's because of other people who may be involved in accidents with you, but it still feels weird to make someone be safer without their consent. Perhaps they should outlaw the stunts on Jackass too, heaven knows they aren't safe. Maybe we need to sign waivers stating we know the risks we're being put in and we accept them. Are they afraid of us sueing? Probably, everyone is these days. Goddamn people sueing over everything.
