A band/singer whose popularity you'll never understand: Dave Matthews Band
My first instinct is to say the band that grates on me the most, which is Dave Matthews Band, but it's not like I think they're the most un-talented bunch of hacks ever, I just don't understand how mediocre talents can get such the rabid fanbase. But I guess jam bands have always had their place with the hippies and the WASPs looking to find themselves a personality and making fools of themselves instead. But I just hear his voice and I get upset. I remember that their first single (or the first one I ever heard at least) was popular at the same time the Blues Traveler song was popular and so I associated them. Before gym class girls in the locker room were discussing the 2 and which was better and I was surprised how thoroughly most of them were behind the Dave Matthews, as I thought the Blues Traveler song was better, if only by a little. In the year after that the girls got all swoony over the band, and by the time I was a freshman in college the girls would get together like little sleep over groups to moon over Dave Matthews lyrics, some girls even got tears in their eyes. That was when my hatred started, and why I could never hear them and not roll my eyes. I think they have some good lyrics at times, but to have these girls swooning and crying?! WTF?
